Worksop College has seen many a gifted musician walk through its doors. We are committed to providing the very best in musical education and offer remarkable opportunities for gifted musicians.

Music Scholarships are available to candidates who show considerable ability and potential on any instrument, including the voice. Music Scholars must demonstrate their passion for the subject as well as their technical skill.

The ability to play a second instrument is an advantage, although outstanding performers on just one instrument or voice are welcome to apply.

Music Scholarship Application Process

How are Music Scholars assessed?

If you successful in your application, you will be invited to our Music Assessment Day.

Music Assessment Day

Performance - You will perform two contrasting pieces on your main instrument or voice. Please ensure we have your music at least one week before the assessment.  We will provide an accompanist.  In addition to bringing the accompaniment, please provide an additional photocopy of your music for the assessor.

If you choose to, you will perform one piece on any secondary instruments. The same instructions as above apply.

Sight Reading - this will take the form of a quick study on your main instrument. You will have 20 minutes to prepare a piece of previously unseen music directly before the audition for performance in the audition.

Aural Test -  this test will be appropriate to your current level of attainment.

Written test - you will sit a written paper, which broadly test the same skills as the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) Theory Syllabus. The questions set will seek to determine your progress towards Grade 5 theory. It is understood that you may not be working at this level yet. You will have access to your instrument or a piano for this assessment.
